Know MeBorn on 5th March, 1959, at Vellore in Tamil Nadu, Prof. B. Suresh is a rare combination of committed research scientist and a pharmacy and medical educationist. For the past 25 years, he has been actively involved in uplifting the standards of not only the pharmacy education and profession but also committed himself in nurturing medical education at all levels in the state of Tamil Nadu and elsewhere through his committed efforts, passion and vast experience. Starting his career in 1982 as a Lecturer in J.S.S. College of Pharmacy, Ooty with M.Pharm., Ph.D., FIC, D.Sc., as an academic qualification, he was, within 3 months, elevated to the post of Principal In-charge on the basis of his unmatched handwork, performance, sincerity and dedication. His professional and academic career has been bejeweled with several awards, honorary posts in various statutory bodies of the Govt. of India, State of Tamil Nadu and the universities, besides being recognized by the pharmaceutical industry as an academician and research scientist of significance as evidenced by his membership in their scientific committees and Industrial consultancy projects undertaken by him. Breaking all records, he is the youngest President in the history of the Pharmacy Council of India. He has 218 National and 75 International Scientific Publications to his credit, besides 48 general publications. He has guided various pharmacists to a well‑settled career. His membership for various social and civil bodies indicates his zeal to develop in every sphere of life. His efforts to highlight Indian Pharmacy Profession in the International Scenario can be best illustrated by his countless efforts in various bilateral research programmes particularly with USA, UK, Germany and South Australia besides numerous visits to various countries for the cause of profession. He has a rich & varied experience of organizing various National & International Conferences & Seminars. He had organized for the first time in the country the International Conference of Health Sciences and mooted the concept of forming an Indian Alliance of Health Sciences bringing together all health councils to be a part of the alliance to provide better health care to the country. He was also elected as the President of 58th Indian Pharmaceutical Congress - 2006 held at Mumbai. He was the first to Introduce PG course in "Pharmacy Practice" and the Pharm.D programme in India and continues to strive to uplift this facet of pharmacy profession by working closely with practicing pharmacists in Community & Hospital. The above said achievements indicate that pharmacy profession is gifted to get such a scintillating personality. His compatibility with various professions makes him the best person to lead and guide the national bodies like the Pharmacy Council of India to a bright future in Health Care Services not only in India but also on International platform. Besides being the First Indian Academician to be awarded FAPA Ishidate Award - 2004 (International Award) for the valuable services rendered in the field of Pharmaceutical Education. He was also the First Indian to be elected as the President of Asian Association of Schools of Pharmacy with its headquarters at Singapore and Chairman of Education Division of Federation of Association Pharmaceutical Association Prof Dr B Suresh was conferred the Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) for his contribution in the field of pharmaceutical sciences on 11th October, 2007 on the occasion of the Seventh Convocation of The Tamilnadu Dr MGR Medical University, Chennai, by His Excellency Sri Surjit Singh Barnala, the Governor of Tamil Nadu and Chancellor of the University. Dr B Suresh was unanimously elected as President, Indian Pharmaceutical Association in March 2008. On June 13, 2008 Dr B Suresh assumed charge as Vice-Chancellor of JSS University, Mysore. He was reelected as the President of Pharmacy Council of India, New Delhi, in August 2008 for the period of five years. Dr. B.Suresh has been invited to make several international presentations of the research work carried out as well as led by him. In connection with the same he has traveled widely in India and abroad. He has traveled to the United States of America, United Kingdom, Europe, Middle East Countries, Southeast Asian countries and Australia. He has unique experience and exposure to working with the University system as he has been the Syndicate Member and Board of Management Member of not one but three universities namely the Tamil Nadu Dr M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai; Bharathiar University, Coimbatore and Sri Ramachandra (Deemed University) Medical College and Research Institute, Chennai. Till date he holds the record of being elected thrice as the Governing Council Member, as Senate Member continuously for past 18 years from the inception and significantly contributed to the growth of the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai. He his fondly liked by all his colleagues for his humane approach and is excellent team leadership. He is happily married to Seema and blessed with two lovely daughters Sanjana (14 years) and Shloka (7 years). |
